GeoLearns is a business that promotes learning outdoors, which is without a doubt the best classroom for learning about Earth Science. Louise Leslie founded her business in October 2020 based on her passion for sharing Earth Science education. The seed was planted years ago when she was invited to her son’s grade 3 class to talk about her career as a geologist. She was awed by these young students' endless curiosity and eagerness to engage in learning about rocks, minerals and fossils. Her goal is to provide enriching Earth Science experiences by creating fun, informative outdoor adventures which endeavours to raise awareness about Earth Science education.

Hands-down, there is no better classroom for learning Earth Science than being immersed in the natural outdoor environment. Teachers and parents can witness this for themselves while joining Louise on new adventures in her outdoor classroom. Nova Scotia is fortunate to have so many accessible places where anyone can visit to experience first hand its rich coastline and in particular, the beaches along the north coast of the Minas Basin, home to the Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark. This wonderful, UNESCO outdoor classroom is the backdrop to GeoLearns’ experiential learning environment.

Louise Leslie, MSc, MA.

Louise Leslie is an Earth Science educator with two complementary graduate degrees (Masters of Science in Quaternary Geology and Masters of Arts in Environmental Education and Communication). Louise’s career as a professional geologist brought her work experience in remote areas of Western and Northern Canada.

Concurrent with her geology career, Louise had a second career serving in the Medical Branch of the Canadian Army Forces (CAF) Reserves. For a short period, she set aside her passion for geology when she transferred to the CAF Regular Force. This brought her to locations across Canada and on international deployments.

Before retiring from CAF, she completed her second graduate degree, which kickstarted her business and returned to her passion of geology. Louise now resides in Nova Scotia with her husband, David, and their golden retrievers in their forever home along the Minas Basin, overlooking Two Islands and the Bay of Fundy.
