About Louise Leslie MSc, MA
GeoLearns is a business that promotes learning outdoors, which is without a doubt the best classroom for learning about earth science. Principal of GeoLearns, Louise Leslie, founded her business in October 2020 based on her passion and earth science experience. Louise's passion for sharing earth science education began years ago when she was invited to her son's grade 3 class to talk about her career as a geologist. She was awed by the students' endless curiosity and eagerness to engage in learning about rocks, minerals and fossils.
Hands-down, there is no better classroom for learning earth science than being immersed in the natural outdoor environment. Teachers and parents can witness for themselves while joining Louise on new adventures within the outdoor classroom. Nova Scotia is fortunate to have so many accessible places that school children can visit to experience first hand the rich coastline and beaches along the north coast of the Minas Basin, home to the Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark. This wonderful, UNESCO outdoor classroom is the backdrop to GeoLearns experiential learning environment.
Masters of Science in Quaternary Geology and Masters of Arts in Environmental Education and Communication
Louise Leslie is an earth science educator who has a Masters of Science in Quaternary Geology from the University of Alberta and a Masters of Arts in Environmental Education and Communication from Royal Roads University. For more than ten years, Louise's career as a professional geologist brought her work experience in remote areas of Western and Northern Canada. Concurrent with her geology career, Louise served in the Medical Branch of the Canadian Army Forces (CAF) Reserves rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and Commanding Officer. She had to set aside her passion for geology when she transferred to the CAF Regular Force which brought her across Canada and on international deployments. Retired from CAF, Louise now resides in Nova Scotia with her husband, David, and their golden retrievers in their forever home along the Minas Basin, overlooking Two Islands.
